Snippets of the conversation
1) Among the manifold career choices, what made you opt for CA at that point of time? In retrospect, how would you reflect on your decision?
Graduation from SRCC and becoming a successful Chartered Accountant was my dream when I opted for commerce stream in Senior secondary. CA was the obvious choice as it is the most comprehensive course which offers knowledge on all finance and business related subjects. It opens lot of avenues for a student to start career and I felt it will help me to accomplish my dream of getting a good finance job.
When I look back, I am proud of my decision and feel content. It laid the foundation for my successful career and transformed me completely.
2) What were the key aspects of your CA exam preparation strategy, both for the written test as well as the personal interviews that follow?
Planning with suitable strategy and executing the Plan was the key for my preparation. My strategy was to first meticulously cover all the subject in great detail, be it by self-study or tuition and while doing so keep marking or making notes which I felt is either important or need more efforts on my part for understanding and retaining the concept. Post detailed study, I scheduled my time for three revision and successfully executed the same.
Time management is very important during exam, thus while preparation I used to attempt mock exam in time constraint environment and compare the answers with Institute suggested answers.
In exam I used to give ~5 minutes to go through the questions and allocate time for selected questions. While writing exam, I ensured that no question is missed. Even wherever I was not sure of the answer I used to just write the relevant formulas, or definitions etc. Staying focussed and confident was vital for finishing paper well.
For Personal Interview, clarity of technical concept studied in CA and thorough articleship experience with confidence and passion were the key aspects. Also be updated with the latest economic development and policies.
3) How does the CA course life transform an individual?
CA course lays down the foundation for the fundamental financial, accounting, costing & business knowledge. Balancing articleship with study help in developing skills required for manging time and stress, right prioritization, meeting challenging deadlines etc which are indispensable for successful Corporate and Personal life. It prepares student for the upcoming challenges to be faced in competitive corporate environment.
4) In your view, what are factors a student must carefully consider before deciding to embark on the CA journey? (Aptitude, career aspirations etc.)
As a School pass out we generally don’t have idea about which profession to choose and our choices are largely based out of what our peers are doing, interaction with experienced people, counselling from education institution and of course Google.
I feel while deciding about the career choice, a student should not just carried away with the above factors, but should give a serious thought on what he really wants to become and achieve in life. Post that consider the hard-work, efforts, passion, stamina, required to achieve that. Once decided which career to choose, then just work for it with full determination and passion. CA is indeed a very difficult course, but if one has determination and devotion to do it, it is really not that difficult.
5) In a nutshell, what would be your advice to future CA aspirants?
Do your study and articleship with full determination, passion and hard work. There is no substitute for them. Regular study and revisions are very important. Dream high, aim for rank and always keep yourself motivated. It’s the zeal to touch the pinnacle of success which motivates and gives the push to keep going through the difficult preparation years. Always play with your strengths.
Work on developing soft skill also, they are equally important in corporate. CA course offers endless opportunities – go and grab them.
Best wishes to All
